Engineering Director, AI Developer Experience (AIDE)

About the role

Nubank is building an AI-native developer experience for an organization of 3,500+ engineers, and is hiring a Director to define and lead the AI Developer Experience (AIDE) pillar inside Engineering Enablement. The role carries an existing charter, executive sponsorship, and a team of roughly 10-15 engineers expected to grow.

What you'll do

• Own and scale the AIDE pillar, targeting measurable gains in shipped PRs per engineer per week and better token efficiency as AI spend grows.
• Turn today's borrowed, part-time contributors into a dedicated full-time organization, with committed headcount and external hiring.
• Lead five workstreams: NuContext (knowledge/context extraction and retrieval), Vector (agentic coding and hosted sandbox environments), agentic code review, AI SRE, and prompt classification/model routing.
• Run build-vs-partner decisions, including structured evaluations and engagements with third-party AI tooling vendors.
• Define objective evals and benchmarks so quality decisions are repeatable rather than subjective.

Requirements

• Proven leadership of AI-native developer tooling or platform teams at significant engineering scale.
• Experience assembling dedicated teams from fragmented or part-time resourcing, with strong people leadership.
• Hands-on credibility in agentic coding systems, context/retrieval infrastructure, or developer-facing AI tooling.
• Experience structuring and managing third-party vendor partnerships alongside in-house builds.
• Comfort with ambiguity, high executive visibility, and unsolved problem spaces.
• Nice to have: sandboxed agentic execution, LLM code review tooling, token-cost management, fintech or regulated environments.

In-office attendance follows company policy (2x/week in 2026, 3x/week from 2027).
