Senior Applied Data Scientist

About the role

Belvo's Intelligence Squad is looking for a senior applied data scientist to turn aggregated Latin American financial data into models that drive real decisions: credit risk, fraud detection, transaction categorization and income verification. You'll be the data science reference in the squad, deciding what is worth modeling and setting the quality bar.

What you'll do

• Design and select statistical and ML models (classification, regression, ranking, NLP/LLM-based) and defend those choices with data
• Partner with Product and business teams on feature engineering and translate ambiguous questions into scoped modeling problems
• Take models from notebook to production and own them live: pipelines, APIs, monitoring, drift, retraining and retirement
• Run A/B tests and offline evaluations to verify that changes move the target metric
• Use agentic coding and research tooling daily, and share findings with the company-wide AI Chapter

Requirements

• 5+ years in data science or applied science with hands-on modeling
• Models owned end to end in production with measurable business impact
• Strong statistics foundation plus Python (pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow or PyTorch) and SQL
• Experience building with LLMs beyond API calls: agents, retrieval, structured outputs and evaluation
• Engineering fundamentals (testing, version control, CI/CD) and professional English
