Senior Software Engineer, Backend/Fullstack (Coinbase Advisor - Agentic Trading)

About the role

Coinbase is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to work on Coinbase Advisor, an RIA-licensed agentic trading assistant built into the Coinbase app that discusses a user's portfolio, offers personalized advice and executes trades. The role is mainly backend within a full-stack team.

What you'll do

• Own backend services behind Coinbase Advisor and Strategies, from design to launch and operations
• Integrate with Coinbase trading APIs so agent recommendations become correct, auditable executions
• Build the agentic harness: tool calling, orchestration, persistent state and recovery from failed actions
• Tune agent behavior via prompt engineering, evals and conversation analysis with the registered investment adviser
• Improve reliability, latency, observability and execution safety, including duplicate-action safeguards

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering with deep backend experience running production services
• Strong skills in API design, distributed systems, data modeling, testing and production debugging
• Proficiency in Go or ability to pick it up quickly
• Experience with production LLM or agentic systems (tool calling, orchestration, evaluation)
• Ability to take ambiguous projects from zero to production independently

Note: Coinbase is remote-first but expects quarterly in-person working sessions.
