Job overview

About the role

OpenAI is hiring a hands-on communications leader to own launch strategy and storytelling for its frontier models across ChatGPT and the API. The role is based in San Francisco with a hybrid schedule of three days per week in the office and relocation assistance.

What you'll do

Lead model launches end to end: positioning, messaging, media strategy, spokesperson prep and rollout.
Work early with researchers and product teams to understand evaluations, model behavior and limitations, and identify what matters.
Tailor stories for research, developer, business and consumer audiences, partnering with B2B communications on cost, efficiency and customer value.
Write and edit launch blogs, messaging, FAQs, pitches and briefings; develop demos and proof points tested against evidence.
Lead editorial work on model system cards with safety researchers, and coordinate across marketing, legal and regional comms.

Requirements

Proven record leading major launches for technically complex products or research, owning both strategy and execution.
Comfort digging into evaluations and technical details with researchers and engineers.
Excellent writing and editing skills across technical and consumer audiences.
Strong media judgment, journalist relationships and experience preparing spokespeople.
Sound judgment on public claims, sensitive information and timing.
