Staff Machine Learning Engineer

About the role

Coinbase is hiring a Staff Machine Learning Engineer for CX Intelligence (CEEI), the ML layer powering customer engagement across Help Center, chat, voice and agent tooling. You'll lead production ML system design and shape technical strategy for intelligence, routing, evaluation and safety capabilities.

What you'll do

• Design and ship production ML systems using LLMs, deep learning, graph neural networks and classical ML for customer experience problems.
• Work with leadership and cross-functional partners to define roadmaps and turn them into quarterly plans with measurable results.
• Lead high-impact ML projects end to end, from architecture to production, managing priorities, risks and dependencies.
• Build scalable, secure ML services, evaluation pipelines and data workflows in well-tested Python.
• Mentor engineers and drive design reviews covering security, responsible AI, model quality and reliability, scalability and latency.

Requirements

• 8+ years in machine learning and software engineering, with production ML systems, data platforms or analytical services.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs, deep learning, GNNs, gradient-boosted trees or regression, plus NLP, information retrieval, data mining or advanced statistics.
• Strong Python skills and maintainable, highly tested production code.
• Track record mentoring engineers, leading design reviews and influencing stakeholders.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight.
